Cape Town naval architecture firm KND has expanded its high-performance defense portfolio with the introduction of the Hurricane 48, a 48.4-meter fast patrol and fast attack vessel platform.
Engineered for demanding naval, coast guard, and maritime security missions, the vessel builds on the company’s high-speed patrol design philosophy. The platform features a deep-V monohull hull architecture powered by a three-engine, three-Alamarin waterjet propulsion setup. Constructed with an aluminum hull and an optional lightweight aluminum superstructure, the design includes a large aft mission deck equipped for rigid inflatable boat (RIB) and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) operations, along with integrated surveillance and weapons systems.
KND states that the internal layout, propulsion, and electronics suites remain fully configurable to meet individual client specifications.
The announcement follows the recent physical launch of KND’s EvFloat 1 prototype in Cape Town harbor, highlighting the studio’s dual expansion across both specialised military craft and luxury marine hospitality assets
