Strong interest in the inaugural Jo Fensham Yacht Furniture Design Prize has prompted a deadline extension to ensure broad-based participation.
“The extension allows additional time for entrants who have been away during the school and university holidays, particularly students and professionals who have expressed interest in taking part,” the organisers confirm in a competition update.
The competition is a collaboration between Jo Fensham and the Cape Institute for Architecture (CIFA). It aims to connect Cape Town’s design sector with its established boatbuilding industry, particularly its specialised catamaran manufacturing hub.
Registration for the competition now closes on August 7 (previously July 16), with final design entries due by September 30.
“I’ve always felt that I have one foot in two of Cape Town’s most extraordinary industries—architecture and boatbuilding,” says Tariq Fensham, Managing Director of Jo Fensham Yacht Upholstery. “This Prize is a way of bringing those two worlds together and inviting designers to create something original, exciting, and truly rooted in this place and this lifestyle.”
The contest is restricted to professionals, candidates, and students in architecture, interior design, and industrial design who are permanently resident, practising, or studying in Cape Town, and registered with an accredited professional body or educational institution.
