Knysna’s Kinetic Catamarans reports another yard milestone – tooling construction for their highly anticipated new K6 model range. Yard MD Leon Scheepers says timber has been ordered and the foundation phase is officially underway.

The K6 was unveiled last year at the Cannes Boat Show last year. Designed by the Dutch-South African heavyweights Simonis Voogd Design, the model comes in 64-foot and 68-foot iterations, engineered specifically for short-handed performance sailing. It’s the direct evolution of their legendary KC54—which previously scooped up Cruising World’s “Boat of the Year” and SAIL Magazine’s “Best Boats” awards.

Kinetic is currently in expansion mode, with multiple hulls on the go and the stated ambition of producing three or four boats a year.  That’s a big step up from the initial boat-a-year production schedule when the yard was founded just eight years ago as a joint venture between Leon and his US partner Bob Hayward.
