Cape Town’s RIB specialist Gemini Marine has secured a large order to provide 10 x Specialised Water Rescue boats for flood-ravaged Queensland in Australia.
The order consists of two different Gemini flood rescue boat models, specifically designed with shallow draft and high maneuverability for deployment in flood-affected areas.
Gemini already supplies a variety of specialist flood and rescue boats to emergency services, rescue agencies and swift water rescue teams worldwide, with many end users operating throughout Australia as well as Fire Rescue and Swift Water Rescue departments across the United States. The company has previously delivered 66 Gemini flood rescue boats into SES operations across Australia.

Gemini chief executive Gerhard Neethling says the worldwide increase in Gemini rescue boats coincides with increasingly severe weather linked to climate change. He said the most recent floods affecting the Cape are a case in point: “We believe our rescue boats could also provide a search & rescue solution for many disaster management stakeholders, particularly when needing to deploy in remote areas or under hazardous conditions,” Neethling says.

“These boats have now been tried, tested and proven time and time again in real rescue operations worldwide. Flood rescue environments are incredibly demanding and dangerous, and reliability, stability and controllability are absolutely critical when lives are at stake,” Neethling says.
