Cape Town-based naval architecture and engineering firm KND Naval Design has introduced HullTrack, a custom project management and communication platform designed to streamline communication between design offices, shipyards, and vessel owners.
Developed directly to resolve common administrative bottlenecks in boatbuilding—such as lost email chains, scope disputes, and scattered WhatsApp updates—HullTrack centralises project documentation into a single live platform accessible via web browser or mobile app.
Unlike generic project software, HullTrack features structured access controls tailored to commercial marine workflows. The platform connects the three key project stakeholders—Design Office, Shipyard, and Client—while providing each entity with an isolated internal workspace. Administrators retain full control over which drawings, site photographs, task approvals, and change requests are shared externally versus kept within internal teams.
On site, yard teams can upload progress photos and updates directly from a mobile device to specific project milestones. The design office and client instantly receive verified visibility, creating an immutable audit trail of scope approvals and technical revisions as work progresses.
According to KND, the software was initially built to manage internal naval architecture projects, but is now being rolled out across the broader maritime sector to reduce report-writing overhead and eliminate communication errors on build sites.
