The first EvFloat “luxury floating residence” has launched at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront marina, signalling a new build concept with export potential. The EvFloat was designed by KND Naval Design specifically to cater for apartment-style living on the water—a luxury marina residence.
“Designed and built in South Africa, EvFloat combines naval architecture and marine engineering with high-end residential comfort, creating a new floating accommodation product for marinas, waterfront developments, hospitality operators, and private investors,” the project team said in a launch statement. “The concept supports full ownership, fractional ownership, and short-term rental models, making it suitable for both private use and investment-driven hospitality operations.”
Interestingly, the EvFloat launch coincides with news that the median price of a freehold property on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard has rocketed to R19.75 million—a huge jump over the past year. Could soaring demand for water frontage translate into more floating accommodation?
