More arrivals, more paperwork, but only so much time to get everything done.

That’s the challenge facing South Africa’s ocean sailing sector which faces an increasing number of visiting cruisers.

Fortunately, help is at hand in the form of two new recruits to help the Ocean Sailing Association of Southern Africa (OSASA), now responsible for registering incoming boats, reporting to DoT, and managing the CRM system.

Operations Manager Sunette Nel, and media liaison officer Linsay Ferguson, have been appointed to help OSASA embrace its expanded role.

Sunette is a familiar face in KZN sailing, having served previously on the Point Yacht Club General Committee and manager of the Durban Beach Club.

Linsay has over a decade of experience in sailing operations, digital communications, and maritime development, and has held leadership roles with South African Sailing, SABBEX, and Blue Cape.

Earlier this year, Knysna stalwart Michael (Jakes) Jacobs succeeded John Franklin as OSASA Managing Director.

Together, the new team aims to strengthen OSASA’s relationship with the Department of Transport in the best interests of all maritime stakeholders, particularly the cruising community.
