Navigo International General Manager Pietro Angelini has expressed confidence in his company’s groundbreaking deal with the KwaZulu-Natal government.
Angelini was speaking during a five-day tour of Durban’s marine infrastructure as part of a Yachting Aftersales and Refit Experience (YARE) delegation.
“We have found a very good place to develop a yachting destination,” Angelini said during the visit, according to a report in Independent Online. “For the southern part of Africa, but even for this southern part of the place, South Africa, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar,” Angelini said.
In terms of the deal signed earlier this month, Navigo will collaborate with the KwaZulu-Natal government to strengthen the regional ocean economy with a view to producing a KwaZulu-Natal boating brand. The initiative – described as a ‘business exchange’ – would involve harbour upgrades and investment in critical infrastructure needed for marine manufacturing. Navigo would contribute their extensive global expertise in yachting services and networking. The company is expected to guide KZN along a marine economy growth path.
“Our goal is to ensure that partnerships like this one translate into real economic opportunities for our people – from the youth being trained in high-demand technical skills to entrepreneurs breaking into global marine value chains,” KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli said at the partnership launch in Umhlanga earlier this month (July).
“This is more than a business exchange – it is a platform for economic renewal, capacity building, and global positioning. We welcome this collaboration as a driver of innovation and growth within the maritime sector,” Ntuli said.
