Newly-established Method Yachts is bringing a new 32ft sport catamaran to market on the back of anticipated strong demand for smaller high-performance cats.

The Method 32, which can be fully disassembled, is the latest addition to South Africa’s fleet of eye-catching catamaran models. It is taking shape under the watchful eye of Erhardt Joubert, who is better-known for the Avanti 26 monohull racing yacht – of Lipton Cup fame. Joubert has teamed up with a foreign investor, Polish businessman Maciej Chamerski, to form Torhamer Marine which will produce the two separate boat brands at their 2000 square metre Cape Town yard.

“The 32ft cat prototype’s hull has been built and we hope to start building the 32ft monohull prototype soon,” Joubert told SABBEX. “The factory is Torhamer Marine. And they are producing boats for two brands, Method Yachts and Avanti Marine.”

Joubert’s team is already up and running, with one boat finished and others in production. While the M323 is geared for the sport catamaran market, the Avanti 32 monohull racing yacht is intended to follow in the wake of its predecessor, the successful Avanti 26 which is already making waves in local waters.

Joubert is also in the process of launching a unique sailing training programme aimed at encouraging family sailing. A Paul Roos Old Boy, Joubert is currently training two Paul Roos pupils and their father, with a view to having a Paul Roos team competing in the next Cape to Rio Race. “It’s a kind of a father and son programme, to get young boys with their fathers to sail on their boat. I’m doing it in my free time to promote the sport.”
