One of South Africa’s top yards has confirmed a deal with Cape Town’s Omegaverse facility, which is accumulating clients in the boatbuilding sector and beyond.

Southern Wind Shipyards hired Omegaverse to build the mould for their new ‘Allseas’ fast cruiser, the SW100X, which was officially unveiled last year. “We also did a few other bits and pieces, but the big mould is the main scope of tooling at the moment,” SW spokesperson Elena Caputo told SABBEX. “SWS finds it really positive and we are fully supportive of the fact Omegaverse is here for the SA boating industry, it’s a happy collaboration.”

Omegaverse took a while to come to fruition, due largely to the challenge of finding a suitable location. However it is now firmly established in Paarden Island and attracting diverse clients.

Omegaverse founder Clinton Johns believes the advanced technology will be a huge asset for boatbuilding, particularly with yards full to bursting amidst surging international demand. “It is exciting that Southern Wind Shipyards used Omegaverse for machining their coachroof build as well as the manufacture of the mould for their new design,” Johns said.

“Omegaverse has now done work for many of South Africa’s leading yacht builders as well as aircraft , satellite and other industries.”

“Using the Italian-built large scale 5 axis milling machine allows parts of yachts up to 60’ (20 metres) to be machined as one component,” he said.
