BOAT BUILDERS URGED TO MAKE USE OF CSIR /DTIC PROGRAMME
What started as a CSIR initiative to bolster the aerospace sector is now providing much-needed support for marine manufacturing. Funded by the DTIC, the Certification and Technology Enhancement Programme helps companies navigate past complex regulatory and technical red tape that can retard or delay growth. By helping to decode gobbledygook, the programme unlocks manufacturing potential. “We have got a lot of projects that are supporting the boatbuilding industry,” said Erik Wegman, the programme lead from the CSIR.
A key programme intervention is assisting local companies become compliant with international standards, with a view to opening up potential new export markets for South African product. Wegman said the CSIR hopes to engage more companies with a view to extending the Programme reach.
