Du Toit Yacht Design

Du Toit Yacht Design (DTYD) was established by Anton and Charmaine du Toit in 2001. Today, it is South Africa’s premier naval architecture firm, having produced more custom catamaran metres and tonnage than any other yacht designer in the southern hemisphere.
DTYD has a team of eight designers and has completed over 120 projects since 2001, including over 30 complete custom and production catamarans. DTYD is based in the centre of the boat-building hub of Cape Town, giving the team easy access to boat building yards, mast manufacturers, sail lofts and the harbours.
From its inception in 2001, DTYD grew steadily into a busy and successful naval architecture firm. It wasn’t long before DTYD was designing complete custom builds for a range of marine manufacturers, in addition to collaborating with leading yacht designers and boat builders. DTYD and Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing designed and built the Open Ocean sailing and expedition catamaran range from 2006. They have launched nine custom power and sailing catamarans, ranging from 70 to 110 foot.
In 2013 DTYD partnered with Nexus Yachts of St Francis and Phil Berman from the USA to create become a very popular semi-custom boat, winning the Cruising World Boat of the Year award for 2017.

Naval Architecture and Exterior Design
We offer a full range of hull design, performance prediction, hydrodynamic and weight studies. The exterior design is developed in concert with the overall concept of the vessel. Every effort is made to keep the styling well developed, simple, easy-to- use and practical at sea. We can supply the builder with surface files for CNC milling, or full size templates.
Structural Design and Detailing
The structural design for hulls, decks, internals, keels, rudders, hardware items and fittings is done either to regulatory standards where required, or to first principles.
Interior Planning
We do all interior planning and styling for simple, small vessel interiors and more complicated ones on larger yachts where detailing and integration of the concept with the vessel’s structure and systems become important. We can supply general arrangements, furniture styling details, module drawings, lighting and switch plans.
Systems
The mechanical aspects of the vessel are also a very important part of the design, which is why we prefer to do this in-house. This includes details such as the stern gear, steering, mechanical and plumbing systems.
