SUPERYACHT TRAINING BOOM

Superyacht training is booming in Cape Town with a surge in student enrollment at the Superyacht Training Academy.

This year’s figures show a marked increase in the student intake compared with two years ago when training was severely impacted by Covid-19 travel restrictions.  Chanel Marais, whose company Virtual Yacht Assistant designs, builds and delivers some of the courses for SYTA, said SYTA is now also offering advanced courses to cater for returning students.

January’s SYTA intake was 140, up from 117 last year and just 67 in 2021. Similar increases were recorded for February and March.

Marais says the figures are testimony to the demand for superyacht careers.  The course also offers student support in the form of visa applications, CV preparation and career placement.
